Let The Children Be!

Recently I've had several conversations with parents who have pulled their children out of public school and are now homeschooling their kids. There are varying reasons but the common denominator is dissatisfaction with the current system of education.

2012 & 2013 ushered in a new energy of creativity, enlightenment, and connectedness with our higher selves. Our children are more advanced and aware than any generation before. They are demanding a new paradigm of education that supports who they are as spiritual beings and their life purpose. Anything else will be met with resistance or refusal to participate.

Unfortunately many bright children are being mislabeled as difficult, slow or uncooperative. They are then disciplined for not fitting into a system that doesn't support them. They are made to feel wrong because of their behavior and too often medicated to try to control them.

I say let our children be! We each have a divine purpose to express and maybe certain parts of traditional education don't support the purpose of many of our children. What if education actually focused on a child's interests and desires instead of passing tests?

We are moving into a higher level of consciousness as a society. We cannot expect to advance while clinging to old ways of being. Our children have come here with heightened awareness and solutions to age old problems. Why don't we support them in their quest instead of hinder them with our outdated beliefs and fears?

My daughter Mecca has been homeschooled from the start. She is an enthusiastic student (most of the time) who likes to stand on her head while we practice spelling. She is silly and smart and very independent and strong willed. I think if she was forced to sit in a classroom for hours at a time she would be labeled difficult because of her independence and spirited nature. A teacher with 30 students needs kids to conform not express their individualality.

I understand homeschooling is not a viable option for everyone. It is a huge commitment many parents cannot make because of work and other obligations. And many children do thrive in school and are quite happy there. However, for those kids that just don't fit in, I ask parents to consider the change may need to occur in the school and not with your child. Maybe, just maybe your child is perfectly on track with their soul purpose which doesn't mesh with what and how they are being taught in school.

The energy and vibration of 2013 will not tolerate the status quo. Change is happening and education is a primary arena that needs to meet the current requirements of its students. Let the children be and redesign the institution.

It's so nice to hear the same views from someone else! I also believe in everything you have stated here. I am often the odd one out who ever I am with because of this. I'm 25 with two children, 6 & 3. I am all for home schooling but their father disagrees entirely, do you have any advice?

My advice is to check out your local homeschool groups and participate in some of their activities. Many people are resistant to homeschooling because they feel their kids might be isolated or they just don't understand it. My daughter is very social and we have a few activities each week. Also, many local museums, zoos, gardens, etc. have special homeschool days. You receive excellent discounts and excellent programs. My friend's husband was resistant at first, but once he started meeting other homeschool families and saw the activities we created for the kids, he completely changed his mind and is now a big proponent of homeschooling! Good luck to you.
